An ML model like DALL-E can only generate something that looks like what it has already seen. It is literally trained to do that. Best human artists try to make original art, something that is unlike anything else out there. But yes, there are plenty of artists who don't need or want to make original art, and those are in trouble. On the other hand, we still don't know how to teach AI to distinguish between good and bad art. So perhaps a lot more humans will become professional art critics.
