Takeaways from 3 Years Working in Machine Learning
- mark_l_watson 5y agoI largely agree with his comments. I especially liked: “” A large part of my work was around automatic machine learning, so I’m obviously biased about thinking it’s a big deal, but I do think it’s a big deal. The vast majority of people working in ML, be it academia or industry, seem to be working on tasks that are on the edge of automation.”” I just retired after about a 7 year sprint doing deep learning and I think the field is getting close to the type of automation that will hugely reduce the required ML headcount at most organizations. An other job category I expect to see mostly automated away is manual creation of “dashboards” for data visualizations and decision making. Not an easy problem to solve, but there is a ton of money to be saved.
