This reminds me of the early 90's. When LambdaMOO was just becoming a thing, some people started up a server (ChaosMOO) where everybody was created as a wizard (basically somebody with full permissions / control of the database). So everybody had the potential to do anything.
I don't remember the result, but I think it actually ended up being pretty polite without anybody deleting everything. It looks like the database even survived online if anybody wants to see what was accomplished.
Anyway, this seems like a fun idea! Hopefully it produces something that some random person will idly comment about in a semi-related thread 30 years later.
- huachimingo 5y agoI saw something similar on a pretty obscure spanish forum. They added a sub called /anarchy/, where everyone could edit the CSS and some parts of the page. It was pretty cool but then someone started to spam anime or music.
- jstarfish 5y agoThere used to be (and I assume still are) a ton of Minecraft, Terraria and Roblox servers like that. Nothing productive came of anything I saw; it was just a sandbox for griefers.
- Shared404 5y agoI suspect barrier to entry has something to do with it. The higher the barrier to entry, the more likely those involved will be constructive.
