I'll be honest, they lost at me when they quoted Jordan Peterson.
- frankbreetz 5y agoI'm not a fan of Jordan Peterson, but I thought that quote really drove the author's point home. I was much more appalled by the cheating policy described preceding the quote.
- jszymborski 5y agoBut surely quotes are best taken in the context of the people who say them. The quote "You're not perfect just the way you are. You could be better." needs to taken into context of Peterson's work. Peterson uses this to attack the idea self-acceptance and embracing your identity or expression. It's meant to be a foil to the "You're perfect just the way you are." mentality that isn't meant to engender the idea that everyone is infallible, but rather we needn't change our identity to conform to e.g. gender norms. Of course, Peterson purposefully misinterprets this as a declaration of infallibility and acceptance of mediocrity, which fits nicely into the narrative the author is weaving.
- netsharc 5y agoI found him (Peterson) insufferable but didn't want to dismiss him without listening to what he had to say (chicken and egg problem isn't it), until he blabbed about climate change, a topic he surely wasn't an expert on. At that point I knew he was full of shit. Yeah, quoting this guy and the phrase "judicial activism" shows where the author stands politically.
