Open source “collective hell” Godot game – anyone can commit and game autobuilds
- Shared404 5y agoI love this idea. Gonna keep an eye on it, and probably contribute at some point.
- gota 5y agoThere's potential for some wacky games between teams of developers vying for one kind of feature or mechanic over others. Branchings of A Little Game Called Mario abounding, self- and cross-referential This should be interesting. I love these kinds of things that raise potential emergent creative artifacts
- aspenmayer 5y agoSo instead of Trade Wars, we can now play Commit Wars! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trade_Wars https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trade_Wars
- dragonsky 5y agoI've not encountered Godot before. Going to download and have a play. Might be just the thing to help scratch my game making itch without having to go into a heavy duty game engine or having to build from scratch..
- ehnto 5y agoIt's so refreshing, very pragmatic. The editor is a tiny standalone exe too, truly remarkable in todays age where a calander app is somehow 500mb. I think Signals are the only thing that I didn't really enjoy right out of the gate.
- filchermcurr 5y agoThis reminds me of the early 90's. When LambdaMOO was just becoming a thing, some people started up a server (ChaosMOO) where everybody was created as a wizard (basically somebody with full permissions / control of the database). So everybody had the potential to do anything. I don't remember the result, but I think it actually ended up being pretty polite without anybody deleting everything. It looks like the database even survived online if anybody wants to see what was accomplished. Anyway, this seems like a fun idea! Hopefully it produces something that some random person will idly comment about in a semi-related thread 30 years later.
- huachimingo 5y agoI saw something similar on a pretty obscure spanish forum. They added a sub called /anarchy/, where everyone could edit the CSS and some parts of the page. It was pretty cool but then someone started to spam anime or music.
- jstarfish 5y agoThere used to be (and I assume still are) a ton of Minecraft, Terraria and Roblox servers like that. Nothing productive came of anything I saw; it was just a sandbox for griefers.
- Shared404 5y agoI suspect barrier to entry has something to do with it. The higher the barrier to entry, the more likely those involved will be constructive.
- smlavine 5y agoInteresting concept. Weird license though.
