Kraken CEO on Crime in SF
- rossdavidh 5y agoI would be interested to hear from any HN readers who live or work in SF nowadays. How does this tweet compare to your lived experience?
- tj-teej 5y agoI live here, it's fine. There are pockets in the Tenderloin and around that are filled with real misery, but I've never felt unsafe. It's just sad to see. There's police everywhere and the homeless may do drugs but I've never seen anything violent. The fact of the matter is this is a city of a million people, every American city of this size has bad areas, the difference is in SF these sections aren't pushed somewhere away from the downtown where it can be ignored. Everyone can point to someone that has a story of being mugged, but this isn't specific to SF (think Chicago, New York, DC) Our mayor endorsed Michael Bloomberg for President, while there are many Lefties in the city (and city council), the fact of the matter is the city is run by big money. They would rather remove the homeless from peoples field of vision than solve the social problems in the city. And with an ongoing attempt to recall the Progressive Prosecutor I would expect to see even more news stories like this.
- malermeister 5y agoThe same CEO donated to the far-right convoy in Canada. I'm not sure he's the most trustworthy voice, sounds more like a Fox news rant about how SF is a hellhole (also includes a dig at the left-wing DA for extra virtue signaling). (I've been living in SF for seven years and it's fine fwiw)
- spaceisballer 5y agoIs his name spelled wrong? This reads like someone who lives on social media. There are a lot of stories being shared that major cities are basically burning. Unfortunate if some of their employees got hurt. Instead of any type of compassion or acknowledgement just went after the DA.
