- OnlyMortal 5y agoCould been the operative word.
- rasz 5y agoStem cells. Last time this type of therapy was in the news some woman got injections in Asia and had bone fragments growing in her Eyelids.
- Teever 5y agoI've seen other stories where they e overcome the tumour generation from this technique (in mice). It sounds like this kind of technique is almost ready for use in surgery to minimize scarring.
- inglor_cz 5y agoEpigenetic reprogramming is very dangerous, but also very, very promising. If we can do this right, all kinds of regenerative medicine become possible: blind people seeing again, crippled people walking again, people with heart failures running again etc. Altos Labs (recently co-financed by Bezos to the tune of some 3 billion dollars) has several scientists specializing in reprogramming, including a Spanish scientist who was able to reprogram living mice without causing any tumors.
- JPLeRouzic 5y agoIzpisúa Belmonte? Doesn't the mice either died after three or four days from cell malfunction or developed tumors that killed them later? https://www.technologyreview.com/2019/08/08/65461/scientist-fountain-of-youth-epigenome/ https://www.technologyreview.com/2019/08/08/65461/scientist-...
- inglor_cz 5y agoThat is him and his lab. It seems that they were more successful recently: no cancer increase in treated mice was observed. https://www.sciencealert.com/making-cells-revert-to-a-younger-state-safely-reversed-signs-of-aging-in-mice https://www.sciencealert.com/making-cells-revert-to-a-younge...
