Are bad managers behind the 'great resignation'?
- Finnucane 5y agoNot subscriber, so I'll just assume the answer is yes.
- shapefrog 5y agoMany employees are frustrated by their leaders and this is negatively affecting their enjoyment on the job. That is a yes then, brief and to the point - not what I normally expect from HR
- mc4ndr3 5y agoI've had some bad upper managers before, who wouldn't trust their middle managers to answer status questions. As a result, I had to take twelve status report questions an hour from assorted people, meanwhile nothing could get done. Sometimes the most productive route forward is patience, not aggression. Yes, we all want I.T. things done "yesterday". The best managers hire well and then trust their employees to provide process improvements over time. The manager learns over time which kinds of tasks the employee excels at, and steers them towards and entrusts them to fulfill those tasks. A good manager does not always implement, or even agree with, every idea. But at least dedicates time to collecting perspective from the employee, who is closer to the action.
