This is one of my concerns with DoQ (DNS-over-QUIC). Currently DoQ is designated to be on port 853, like DoT, but DoH is great because it's not easily distinguished from other traffic on 443. But, DoQ is a much better protocol so I hope that there is a resolution here, which I'm guessing will be the same as HTTP/3, so we'll see. Maybe in the end it will be the same as DoH.

- zamadatix 5y agoThe DoQ RFC is working on and explicitly setting aside provisions for automatic discovery of alternative ports for the port 443 "blend-in" use case. The designated port is just there for having a standard number to use when admins don't want to have to multiplex everything over UDP 443.
