You Are Burned Out and Don’t Even Know It [video]
- maximente 5y agoi am so grateful for this man's effort and content. his ability to distill topics into super accessible and actionable nuggets of information is something i've never really experienced before. it's almost too good to be true - i'm a little worried there's some guruism going on that's subtly increasing my opinion of him (granted he's super charismatic, well spoken, and sharp, but still)
- Upgrayyed_U 5y ago100%. I regularly point people to his video "Why Gifted Children are Special Needs." It and Randy Pausch's Last Lecture may be the only legitimately lifechanging videos I've ever watched. One of his core messages is that we (meaning his target audience, mostly males under 40) generally have too high expectations of ourselves and place too much importance on what we're "supposed" to be doing with our lives vs what we actually want to do. Internalizing this idea has helped me move towards finding work and relationships that are more fun and fulfilling. I'm finding myself to be increasingly unconcerned with what other people think about me, which ironically has made me more relaxed and likeable.

- janmalec 5y agoShows up as "Video not available". No reason provided. Anyone else experiencing this?
- Gravyness 5y agoNope, works perfectly for me, even on incognito mode, am located on Brazil tho.
- chillacy 5y agoI really enjoyed this video when I first saw it, especially learning and recognizing that burnout includes cynicism and is often triggered by feeling unrewarded. Makes a great deal of sense. Dr K has been such a gem to discover on YouTube (I know he was pretty famous on Twitch for awhile). I ended up paying for his mental health guide where he'll teaches a lot of different types of meditation beyond the typical mindfulness flavor. This is my favorite of his lectures: how to effectively communicate (by reflective listening): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIATzLf-y04 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIATzLf-y04 I also get a lot out of his 2-hour long deep interviews with various internet celebrities, insofar as I can spot similarities between our struggles and apply lessons to my own life.
- meken 5y agoThis was my favorite video, too. Absolutely life changing. My other favorite video of his is on boundaries. “Why you can’t set boundaries with family and friends.”
- Graffur 5y agoI think I'm burned out after watching this :) Unfortunately this ties cynicism to burnout too much. Can we assume all cynics are burnt out? How do you tell the difference?
