Belarusians, Russians Join Ukraine’s Military

- simonh 5y agoAs long as different points of view get a chance to have their say, and the tone stays civil, I'm fine with whatever gets upvoted. I know that's a tall order on a contentious issue like this and I know there are many Russians here and some of them may well be pro government, but if such a discussion can happen anywhere online, it's probably here.
- d23 5y agoYou seem to have been comfortable throwing your hat in the ring of political discussions on this topic in the past: > There is no open door policy with NATO. Russia and the Soviet union have tried to join NATO at least a few times publicly and were rejected every time. What's the point of NATO again? > I've been seeing a pretty big wave of Nazi apologists on the left lately. It feels like now that everyone knows we've been arming Nazis in Ukraine they moved from denying it to saying Nazis weren't all that bad. > Imo, Putin is more analogous to GW Bush with the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. Can you make a claim for how Putin is worse than even Bush in this regard?
- throw93232 5y agoIf they are Uk. citizens, they HAVE to join! Ukraine is multi-ethnic society!
- simonh 5y agoSure, and young men in Russia with Ukrainian ancestry can get conscripted.

- marktangotango 5y agoPropaganda aside, there's a lot to talk about technology related with the current conflict. Warfare is changing before our eyes. Does anyone now of where this topic is being discussed at a high level (ie hackernews level of discussion)?
- strict9 5y agoOSINT community on twitter is best place (just search for accounts using that term). Outside of twitter this is a good start: https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/ https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/

- gremlinsinc 5y agoWouldn't it be better for them to join the Russian side, then sabotage the HELL out of their efforts? Maybe reach out to Ukrainian leaders on what they'd like them to do, etc... It's highly risky sure, but no more risky than fighting from Ukraine for Ukraine...
