- betwixthewires 4y agoI've used putty on windows at a job, and tried to use it on my home machines. It works, it's alright. That is, until you use ssh in a *nix terminal. Then you're like "why the hell have I been dicking around with putty?" It's good for serial stuff.
- Brian_K_White 4y agoIt's good for saved session profiles. In a heterogeneous environment many of those many many settings actually need to be set to something. The problem is mainly just that standard putty stores those in the registry instead of files, but there are forks that fix that. I even have one I made for a former employer that makes those session files clickable, and has a few other enhancements like detecting your default printer for passthrough print automatically so you can save a session that has working printing without hardcoding a local printer name. I can't point to that right now because the company was sold and the new company took down everything that had the old company name on it. I have to de-brand it then I can put it back up, but by now I think several other forks are as good.
