I rarely see a piece of art that is 'new' or interesting - if you check out an art forum, you see a lot of duplication, similar motifs. Nobody has innovated with art in a very, very long time. I guess you can argue stories are all written, but tech is not that way, neither is science, political discourse. So yes, visual artists may be at some disadvantage. Or at least, if they have discovered something, nobody knows about it.
