Well... yeah! The magical word is "carbon tax" and economists have been screaming it into the skies for at least the last decade. Nobody wants to hear it, though.
- kansface 5y agoHave they really? It seems so impossibly unworkable given we don’t make most things here.
- ericd 5y agoYes: https://clcouncil.org/economists-statement/ https://clcouncil.org/economists-statement/ It’d likely cause a lot of inflation on manufactured goods, but it’d make manufacturing here a lot more competitive, and greatly increase the leverage of blue collar workers in developed countries, which should reduce income inequality within the country - it would make the rich poorer, but the poor potentially also richer in real terms. It’s the only way I see of realistically tackling climate change.
- daveed 5y agoConstruction, energy, food production, and citizen transportation, are huge sources of emissions that absolutely occur on local soil.
