Telling someone to do their own research and decide for themselves what's best != telling people to ALWAYS disregard what they are told to do by a professional If the research/gut feeling disagrees with what the doctor is saying it raises additional questions. To me it sounds like you're telling people to blindly follow a doctor's advice. They definitely shouldn't disregard it, but blind faith is just as stupid
