Wow, something very similar happened to me when I first came to America to study from Ghana and landed in NYC. Struggling with my luggage up a flight of stairs from the subway station, a young lady grabbed the other end of my heaviest bag, helped me up with it, and left without saying a word. Cool to hear this is not uncommon. This incident is indeed also one of my most enduring memories of NYC.
