Intel Doubles Down on ESG with Launch of Second-Gen Bitcoin Mining Chips
- h2odragon 5y agoSounds like classic intel: overselling and under performing. TFA stated figures: Intel: 135 TH/s @ 26 J/TH Antminer: 198 TH/s @ 27.5 J/TH Whatsminer: 112 TH/s @ 31 J/TH This hardly seems very revolutionary and it's already "2nd generation" in 3 months. When Intel first announced their entry into "mining hardware"; I felt that Bitcoin and Intel deserved each other. Intel hasn't got the big monopoly meat to slap down and dominate this market with; and when they lack that they often get embarrassed and spread a lot of low grade sausage everywhere.
- tromp 5y agoComparison of performance per chip is somewhat meaningless without pricing. A mining rig contains dozens or hundreds of chips, and without pricing info, we don't know if an Intel rig would offer more performance per hardware dollar. The efficiency is industry leading which is quite impressive considering how many years and generations the competition has been at it.
