I dislike mind maps because they always impose a central point/root and enforce hierarchy. I prefer to just have free floating nodes that I can attach however I want and build clusters. That way my thoughts are not constrained and and I can build all sorts of relationships. Too bad there are so few software products that enable that. The best one I found is called Scapple. It's easy, quick and cheap (30 day free trial, lifelong license for 20$). The only thing that sucks is the export, other than pdf or jpeg. And it's only fit desktops. Still a great tool for quick initial sketches

That was my pain, like when I began to gather information about triangles and took "triangle" as a root point but then I need to change the root point to "flat figures" and I realize that there is no easy way to change the root point in mind-map software I have tried. This problem of mine has been solved with Zettelcasten, currently I am using Obsidian but going to switch for something FOSS.
