A junior explorer pocket microscope (https://opentinkers.com/collections/toddlers/products/junior-explorer-pocket-microscope https://opentinkers.com/collections/toddlers/products/junior...) is about 10$ and comes without light, but the transparent plastic allows using a phone flashlight. In the end, I find it better than having its own (weaker) light source. Less prone to failure, no extra battery/weight.
