Users of public transportation likely don't realize just how much their usage of public transportation is subsidized, either. Most public transportation networks in American cities get funding from a mix of city, county, state and federal taxes. A $2.50 subway ride costs a lot more than $2.50.
- jfim 5y agoSome cities do have subway systems that are running a profit. For example, Tokyo's private companies running the various subway systems are profitable, with high farebox recovery ratios and additional revenue from station leases for commercial vendors (vending machines and convenience stores).
