Teachers in America Were Already Facing Collapse. Covid Only Made It Worse
- eimrine 5y agoAny ideas for teachers of how to teach? Forbid smartphones? Restrict lessons to 15 seconds long and homework length to 140 symbols? Add meme lessons? Monetization of right answers? I am kidding but not joking, the problem is really here.
- arrakis2021 5y agoFocusing more on teaching and less on social/political activism would be a good place to start. Not trying to be mean or funny. But during covid a lot of parents saw these classes on zoom for the first time and were surprised to learn how many of their children’s teachers are actually activists masquerading as educators. Perhaps a return to focusing on education might be a good idea.
- toomuchtodo 5y agoQuit. Take an alternative job immediately paying tens of thousands of dollars more with better work/life balance, without having to be exposed to administration, politics, and a majority of parents who are either disinterested or counterproductive in their child’s education. To do otherwise is to suffer, and eventually quit anyway (although likely more tired and jaded, and having earned much less than they would’ve otherwise in aggregate). Parents and administrators would have to collectively agree on improving the situation drastically as well as put a significant effort forth for teachers to be empowered to teach effectively, and that is incredibly unlikely to occur based on all available evidence. In short, the system is broken and it is outside of the control of teachers to fix it.
