Los Angeles agrees to spend $3B to house homeless residents
- lioeters 5y ago> $3 billion over the next five years to house some of its 41,000 residents who are homeless That's $14,634 x 5 years for each person. I wonder, if that money was simply given to them, whether a bigger portion could free themselves from homelessness.

- 8bitsrule 5y agoThe retail cost of a manufactured single-wide home today is roughly $50K.[0] Wholesale, en masse, sited (public land), probably $30-40K. Donated/volunteer work could lower that considerably. 41,000 x 35,000 < $1.5 billion. (That's before water, sewer, energy.) About 1/10th the cost of conventional, enduring single-family (same site). Not suggesting that's the best method (it's not; another topic) but a ball-park figure for a proven method (widely discriminated against and widely eliminated in the past 40 years). Laws needed to prove public land and ensure it can never fall into private hands.
