‘No hope for science in Russia’: the academics trying to flee to the west
- jleyank 5y agoOne of the many ways history is repeating the 30’s in Europe. It’s not too much of a stretch to see where the 20’s were repeated as well, along with the crash and the start of the nightmare years (pace Shirer). Those who do not know history are condemned to repeat it. History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes.
- Kaibeezy 5y agoWhat seems unnerving in this situation is Western universities not scrambling to scoop these scientists into their institutions. How do you let that go to waste?
- hotpotamus 5y agoAren't there already something like 100 PHDs per job opening at universities already? There doesn't seem to be a problem with the supply as is.
- Kaibeezy 5y agoExcept these are people who already made it through that gauntlet and are likely in the middle of incrementally reviewed projects. Some are surely at the top of their fields. Maybe China is being more welcoming. I wonder why that wasn’t addressed in the article.
