You want to know something, I don't think theres anything wrong with you. I think working, atleast in the way that we do in America, is draining and soulless. Even in highly paid positions with intellectually engaging work. I took two years off; I rage quit during a period of existential anxiety. A few months later, all of my anxiety and depression disappeared. For 18 months I was very happy, read novels, relaxed with family etc. Eventually that came to an end, I've been at my current job two years, it's a constant struggle. I am always fighting the urge to quit.
- tiefquart 5y agoDamn, are you me? I quit my job in IT consulting some years ago and switched to a governement QC posiion. Still, I struggle and with covid and remote working even more. I often ask myself what`s wrong with me, but I can definately say my mental health is more and more fucked up since I joined the workforce. I always had my fears and insecuriies, but that 9 to 5 lifestyle really pushes me to the edge. Maybe it really is the wrong job after all.
- ldjkfkdsjnv 5y agoYeah quitting the 9 to 5, I saw such a huge difference in mental health. It actually took a few months of unemployment for me to fully feel well. It was bliss. But alas, I am back working and back in the same trap.
