- mdaniel 5y agoDamn shame they stepped on the same jinja2-in-yaml landmine as ansible, using "{{" as template markers: https://github.com/kestra-io/kestra/blob/v0.4.2/README.md?plain=1#L70 https://github.com/kestra-io/kestra/blob/v0.4.2/README.md?pl... Had they chosen to use "<<" (or "${{" like GHA), it would have removed the need to quote almost every one of those expressions that appear in a yaml scalar context, since "{" is a legal yaml syntax character and thus `alpha: {{ beta }}` is interpreted as '{"alpha":{ ... } }' but with an illegal anonymous inner map
- techdragon 5y agoMore people should just adopt the sensible mindset that YAML is good for people and bad for programmers and thus as programmers we should stop fucking using it as all it does is cause us pain. I challenge anyone who has actually read the entire YAML spec to argue a good first principles reason for using YAML over a format like TOML, UCL, JSON 2.0 (it has comments) or even XML. (no arguments about widespread tooling and user familiarity, racism is/was widespread and familiar to people, doesn’t make it right)
