Maybe it's just me, but HBR has always felt like they miss the mark. They are maybe one step ahead of the average person navigating this new world. For those who are used to it, this is common sense.
Like this "how to" article has nothing but generalizations.
- Build trust. (Duh)
- Clarify rules of engagement. (How else would you operate?)
- Be intentional when forming the relationship. (Isn't this what relationships are about? Intention?)
- Balance authenticity with boundaries. (Sorry but this misses the mark. Bring your full self to everything you do. Especially mentorship.)
- When possible, collaborate. (Isn't this what being on a team is about?)
