In my 17 years of telecommuting for a SV megacorp, I experienced each of those. I also experienced living in a cheap state with mountain trails out my back door, a pajama commute, avoided a ton of forced social interactions and politics. In retrospect, I made out like a bandit and would make the same choice if I ever felt the need to go back to working in tech.
