Viewing angles could be a thing. I can recall back in the early 2000s, we had a wave of people wiring up little character LCD displays for hardware monitoring. They inevitably looked awful at angles, washed out backlight, etc. The super-lucky people could get a VFD display, which was a million times more legible, but they tended to be spendy, fragile, and warm-running. OLED gives you everything: cheap, pretty cool running, and easy to read. I've been experimenting with one of the Digole OLED modules to recreate what I wanted 20 years ago. :) (super-easy to interface to USB and program-- we've come so far!)
