Take your pick
- We won't achieve AGI because the goalposts will keep moving every 20 years. Everyone would have a stronger/higher definition of GI as we achieve each milestone.
- Possible doesn't mean it is feasible in finite time. Not all problems are feasible to compute. It could be akin to a NP-Hard problem for example, there is no mathematical certainty that convergence is possible and also in a reasonable time (within the life of the universe).
- It will be possible to build a machine to pass the Turing test, one that can very closely mimic human behaviour, each generation they would come closer and closer and no human can distinguish between the two, True AGI is well beyond that, we maybe able to create something like us, we may not be able to create something better than us.
