The current state of physics suggests that we really have no idea what the "material" universe really is, at any scale. There may well be aspects of physical reality that we have yet to even conceive of. Given that when we cannot even say what a lump of rock is truly made of, or what even the dark void of space is made of, it should be obvious that we cannot be certain at all about what consciousness is made of.
