Thanks for linking the text-only site. Downhill skiing, with all the fancy kit and lodges and lifts, is such a luxury that I'll be happy to see it go. Please let that land go back to more-grounded uses, like hiking for humans, and living for myriad animals (including humans, on a small scale anyway). Even cross-country skiing has a tech problem; the need at the highest levels of competition to go fast at all costs infects the rest of us, and we buy all sorts of needless things. I grew up XC skiing, and at this point I'd rather keep my winter boots on and go snowshoeing or possibly the broad-ski trail-making; in any case, not using big machines to groom trails, and not establishing infrastructure beyond some cooperatively-maintained warming huts.
