The posting of status updates has declined, but at least for me there's still a lot of worthwhile content there which I can't get anywhere else. I am a member of a number of active Facebook Groups for neighbourhood news, some niche hobbies too small to have their own forums, etc.. I also quite come across planned sport/music events which have only a very basic website, with all updates about the event posted on Facebook. I think the killer feature is the to the ability to post photos along with text and then discuss it, without relying on external services. Forums can't handle photos well, and Instgram doesn't deal with long form text or extensive discussion well.
