We Are Qualitatively Different from Other Species
- jleyank 5y agoThat true. For one, we’re arrogant enough to say that we’re qualitatively different that other species…. Same dna/rna, same mammalian systems, same environmental stressors, same in-group/out-group hostility. Yeah, the neocortex is larger but it’s not as if it’s used all the time - the lizard brain at the core seems to drive a whole lot of actions. As Douglas Adams wrote, maybe it’s the fact that other species don’t do what humanity does is the sign of true intelligence. He was writing in humour but there’s logic in that statement.
- bediger4000 5y ago> You look out your window at that beautiful city that happens to be out there that cannot be explained by this gradual increase of biological complexity. Sure, taken completely in isolation, this is true. But cities didn't pop up as the beautiful entities they are today. They grew, as history and archaeology tell us. This article is just someone admitting to not having looked around much. It's essentially an argument from ignorance.
