As a former independent and highly-rated Shopify developer with over 500 clients who was deplatformed over a single customer complaint (which was false, btw), I will never again trust any part of my business developing for someone's proprietary platform. Even before the deplatforming, Shopify unilaterally changed its terms to stop paying recurring revenue on the customers I had already brought in -- unless I continued to bring in new ones evey 6 months. I earned Shopify hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue with my custom design and programming work and they shut me out without even a chance at a review. If you care about your web programming business, don't build it on Shopify or anyone else with proprietary, non-exportable frameworks and tools.
