I will never subscribe to services for the most part if they don’t provide a way via Apple. I’m sorry but I don’t want to email, call someone, answer hundred questions of why I want to unsubscribe etc. I want a single click unsubscribe with no questions asked. A very handful of companies do this. If they earn my trust then I will, until then I prefer to do it via Apple.

- hallway_monitor 5y agoPayPal has been doing this for years. In fact just last week I unsubscribed from something with one click on the PayPal site.
- jbverschoor 5y agoYeah but then your account gets frozen for no reason
- toyg 5y agoThe point is that any payment processor can do the same thing, no Apple needed. And indeed that's what the new EU regulation will soon require.
- jbverschoor 5y agoTure, but PayPal is notorious about this. So yeah, as a consumer, I like paypal. As a merchant, I'd never touch it
- mmastrac 5y agoCharging back a single bad actor doesn't get your Apple/Steam/Google account banned, though.
- nicoburns 5y agoApple could almost certainly enforce apps offering unsubscribe functionality though a standard interface without forcing them to use their payment processing.
- spideymans 5y agoThat's only true so long as Apple can maintain their App Store monopoly.
- jeroenhd 5y agoEU regulation states that digitally purchased subscriptions must be able to be cancelled digitally. There is also nothing in the law that prevents developers from asking a higher price for Apple's payment system if that's what you prefer. If you want to pay the additional 25% for your convenience, then you're free to do so. Apple is the one taking they freedom away from you in this draft, adding a rule that developers can no longer use Apple Pay if they choose for an alternative payment provider. Apple is free to not handle payments for an app if they don't want to, but if you're mad as a user, be mad at Apple. I think everyone agrees that there's a real benefit to Apple Pay, and if you're willing to pay for that benefit you definitely should.
- yunohn 5y agoDo you use IAPs purely for subscriptions? Do other usecases for IAPs not matter?
