we have a basically flat population nationwide, and a growing set of homes. home builders, contrary to this article, have been building a lot of homes across the country. where I live, being a contractor means becoming wealthy and the building has been proceeding non stop for the last 20 years.
the thing is, the opposite is true in many parts of the country. populations are shrinking, there is no demand. where there is demand, in ex-urban and sub-urban places, there is building to meet that demand. there are basically a few locales like SFCA where there is a lot of demand and not as much building, but its a handful.
the perception is that NIMBYs are ruining everything. They might very well be in San Francisco, but that is in contrast to places like Miami, Texas, New York, Virginia, Georgia, etc, where there are very few limits to growth begin imposed. Look at the number of buildings being built in NYC and Miami.
And before you bitter antisocial weirdos start talking about how you dont like the city, well that puts you in an increasing minority. The future is big tall cities, just adapt.
- linksnapzz 5y agoThe future isn't american cities (as they are now). I'm cool with living in cities, so long as they are closer in feel to Zurich or Tokyo than NY or Chicago or LA.
