The game itself doesn't matter, it's all about how you play. You can mindlessly play chess/bejeweled/doom/etc, or you can actively try to find strategies and improve. I see kids publishing detailed wikis and mathematical models for idle games that you'd assume would be completely mindless. I also see adults mindlessly play games on their phone you'd assume would require intelligence such as chess.
