I think the only reason at this point is a certain prolific member involved in it wanting Mono to still be a thing. They have recently left Microsoft though so

I think the only reason at this point is a certain prolific member involved in it wanting Mono to still be a thing. They have recently left Microsoft though so I think it won't be long until .NET 6 and above is the only runtime rather than the duplicated effort that happens today.
