To do that we need a lot of energy.
How do we produce most of the energy at the moment ?
(In before "we just need to cover the Sahara with solar panels and we'll be good").
To reduce CO2 emission, we have a way simpler path: just reduce our energy consumption. This should be 90% of the effort. All the other techniques in the articles might be interesting but are just "good to add" on top of the rest.

It is less effort to transition to clean energy than to convince energy consumers to consume less (although, in developed countries, energy use has plateaued; it's natural that per capita energy use will rise in developing countries, and renewables should be there to meet that increase in demand).
- ravenstine 5y agoI don't necessarily disagree, but to point to conservation as the real simple answer is wishful thinking. Yes, we should consume less. The energy we consume should also consume less. There's this elephant in the room that shall not be named, but too many have buried their heads in the sand after watching one two many historical dramas on their favorite streaming platforms.
- an9n 5y agoWhy do I have the feeling that even if we found a source of limitless clean power tomorrow, activists would not rejoice, but would simply spin up another of their hijacked agenda in the ongoing agitation for global communism sorry I mean Building Back Better?
