- PaulDavisThe1st 5y agoElectric and electronic are not the same thing.
- viraptor 5y agoTo put it in context, are you spending as much time thinking about gas line explosions? Because those happen quite often.
- spacexsucks 5y agoYes. I do. And the oil spills.
- ashtonkem 5y agoElectro Magnetic Pulses? The thing that requires us to detonate a nuclear weapon to create at any meaningful scale? No. I wouldn’t worry about that at all. Besides, if we somehow managed to create an EMP above your city and not set off a full scale nuclear war, your gasoline car and gas pump wouldn’t work either. Those also have computers in them that are critical to their functioning.
- spacexsucks 5y agoThank you all for the genuine answers. As an electronics engineer, i know only about that.
- chasd00 5y agoIt doesn’t have to be a nuclear emp. Anyone can make an emp that will total a car.
- ashtonkem 5y agoIf you have made the kind of enemies that will build an EMP to destroy your car, you have different sets of problems than most of society. This is not something your average person has to worry about, no matter what kind of car they drive.
- theshrike79 5y agoMost cars will also stop working if an EMP fries their electronics. The only things that will work are older diesel engines (90s and older depending on the brand).
