For one it prevents seawater incursion, a major threat to California coastal cropland.
- s1artibartfast 5y agoThis is a valid point and should be managed for those specific areas. That said, costal areas suffer intrusion mainly from groundwater pumping. It is far better to reduce pumping and use imported water, than import water and put it in the ground
