Wholeheartedly agreed - the “Internet never forgets” is a related problem, although I've also seen some apparent “forgetting” over years. Accordingly I liberally use a timed “ignore” function on some forums I participate in. So I can block people for a while, in the hope that their posting misbehaviour is lack of experience and/or just having a bad moment in life.
