I don't think you've exactly fallen for one such post, although, it's hard to say.
However, I think that if you were to look for it, you'd find a lot of this stuff. Psychedelic culture, anarchist culture, etc are heavily wound up in this kind of dis-communication. It's culture jamming.
If you're confused by it, that's the point. Is it effective? Could it possibly accomplish anything?. Probably not, except that it makes the writers feel more free.
- woodruffw 5y agoI was going to post a response to this arguing that it isn't really culture jamming, but I'm not 100% sure. A great deal of 4chan "schizoposting" reads (to me) like normal shitposting mixed with with the "chaotic energy" of actual sufferers of schizophrenia, like Terry Davis. There's also an incel/"NPC" element, where people suffering from extreme isolation de-realize the others around them to rationalize their perceived harms. Mixed together, it's less "dis-communication" or culture jamming and more a confused complex of digital alienation. But maybe that's just alienation under capitalism, and brings us right back to culture jamming.

- kafkaIncarnate 5y ago> So when people come up with labels like 'schizopost' or 'word salad' "word salad" is not a label made up by dumb people, it's generally a alternate term for schizophasia. It's also a very old term. Whether dumb people repurposed it or not is another question. Speaking from personal experience, word salad is generally not controllable and not a pleasant thing that you would "want" to use to express yourself, you generally want to stop and regain control of yourself but simply can't or have already given up hope of regaining control over your speech patterns. It's generally not very pleasant and despair inducing, and you get very lost and fall into a, well, kafka-esque nightmare (/me looks at my name). https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/schizophrenia/symptoms-causes/syc-20354443 https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/schizophrenia... > Disorganized thinking (speech). Disorganized thinking is inferred from disorganized speech. Effective communication can be impaired, and answers to questions may be partially or completely unrelated. Rarely, speech may include putting together meaningless words that can't be understood, sometimes known as word salad. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2950318/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2950318/ > In very severe cases, positive thought disorder manifests as unintelligible speech in which neither the individual words nor the sentences being strung together seem to correspond to any discernable overall meaning – ‘word salad’ or schizophasia, e.g. “Oh, it [life in a hospital] was superb, you know, the trains broke, and the pond fell in the front doorway” (McKenna & Oh 2005), or “They’re destroying too many cattle and oil just to make soap. If we need soap when you can jump into a pool of water, and then when you go to buy your gasoline, my folks always thought they should, get pop but the best thing to get, is motor oil, and, money. May may as well go there and, trade in some, pop caps and, uh, tires, and tractors to grup, car garages, so they can pull cars away from wrecks, is what I believe in. So I didn’t go there to get no more pop when my folks said it. I just went there to get a ice-cream cone, and some pop, in cans, or we can go over there to get a cigarette” (Andreasen 1986).
- iratewizard 5y ago90% sure he's a troll and you fed him. Look at his about.
- sjmm1989 5y agoHaving an opinion that isn't yours, doesn't make me a troll. But you saying stuff like this, definitely alludes to you possibly being one.
- kafkaIncarnate 5y agoI'm pretty sure his about is word salad. /s But seriously it doesn't make much sense to me, but that actually might be a comprehension problem on my part. It does sound very trolly. Thanks for warning me :)
- hobs 5y agoSomeone who is poor at communicating blames people for not understanding their bad communication; claiming labels are bad whilst labeling and being utterly dull. If it's a troll its a boring schtick.
- woodruffw 5y agoInsofar as "schizoposting" is a made up term, it's largely made up by its practitioners. I'm not attempting to make any particular normative statement by continuing to use their choice of word. I don't think that the person who wrote this is dumb. I think they're probably misinformed, have developed a myopic reactionary bent, and are probably trying to express sentiments that English doesn't really have a great vocabulary for yet. That's not a new theme in history!

- winston1111 5y agoNo, schizoposters are people who make wild claims online and refuse to support them. Rational folks don't usually get called that.
- bckr 5y agoYou've hit on what I danced around, and have exposed why I am now so against this kind of thing: It's unwillful dis-communication. It is wretched and hateful. One can spout forth unstructured writing that is abstract, confusing, but also beautiful, uplifting: something that draws you in and smothers you with warmth and living heat. Alternately, there is dis-communication which proactively deconstructs, intelligently dissolving the stuff of thought into a primordial goo from which new life can spring. This type of thing is none of that. It is a moaning for death. And I'll have none of it.
