If I insisted reading history was damaging, I suspect many people would object. The news is just history playing out; a daily dose of non-fiction with my coffee. There are, of course, a lot of terrible news sources. Many of which seem more aimed at creating outrage than anything else. Consumption of those may indeed be an issue.
