I found the historical context made it much easier to understand, and while I'm not a fan of Ferguson's politics - he is an excellent historian of finance.

This is the same one who tried his hand on epidemiology? If so, I'm gonna stay very far away from that book - there's enough authors out there that second chances in a case like this really are not required.
