Fears of nuclear war in Europe stoke demand for fancy bunkers
- pmoriarty 5y agoIn an all-out nuclear war, the people who get killed instantly are going to be the lucky ones. Watch Threads[1] and then tell me you wouldn't have rather died in the blast.... and as absolutely terrifying as it is, that's probably an over-optimistic version of what would really happen. The companies which manufacture these bunkers say they're built to withstand nuclear attack, but I'm pretty skeptical. It definitely depends on where you are in relation to the blast. The US used to have a lot of huge bunkers deep underground and inside mountains, for government continuity purposes in the event of nuclear war, but they were quietly decommissioned once more powerful nuclear weapons were developed, because they realized that even these hardened bunkers wouldn't survive. In the US you're going to be either near a populated area, which will probably turn to a glass crater in a nuclear war, or you'll be in an unpopulated area, which is probably near a missile base, so you're screwed there too. Nuclear winter and fallout will kill anyone unlucky enough to survive. [1] - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Srqyd8B9gE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Srqyd8B9gE
