I don’t know if we’re talking about the same problem, but I previously solved something similar by binding a key that modified mouse speed. So if I need to go large distances with the mouse I hit the modifier and it zipped over super fast, let go of the key, and was back to normal speed. I replaced my desktop/keyboard/mouse with an Xbox controller/rpi for a while in college just for kicks. Worked great.
