EU's New Digital Proposal Is Good for Users, Not for Profits
- 2Gkashmiri 5y agoi am hopeful i can finally stay on matrix while get people who cannot be bothered to leave whatsapp to talk to me. would it be like how we currently send emails? like i don't know if exampl34@gmail.com exists but i still send it. if it does exist, it is delivered otherwise i am told no result. any idea when we can start to see fruits of this interoperability?

- 2Gkashmiri 5y agoawesome. so, i have a question. does this interoperability mean say unless india implements a similar directive, these companies are only going to comply if you are in EU or they will let the option open for everyone?
- ZeroGravitas 5y agoSounds good, though previous EU initiatives have been blunted by lobbying and non-compliance. Possibly China's recent moves in similar directions will make it more obvious when the EU backslides. Maybe one day soon the US will join them and a new dawn of technological capitalism based on multiple competing services trying to meet user needs rather than achieve network lock-in will arise. It's kind of interesting to imagine what could have been if so much human effort hadn't been poured into trapping people into walled gardens.
