Ukraine Changes the Face of War Forever
- joebob42 5y agoI think it may also not really be fair to call Russia a superpower. Its hard to imagine the same thing happening between, say, the us and Mexico, but if it somehow impossibly did I think it's possible things would unfold differently.
- AnimalMuppet 5y agoRussia vs Ukraine might be the epitaph of the 20th Century's romance with the nation-state? Yeah, um... this seems to forget that Ukraine is a nation-state. And that the whole reason the rest of the world is on Ukraine's side is because they don't think that a nation-state should be trampled on just because another nation-state feels like being an empire. There is a case to be made that Ukraine is showing that a smaller army, with more motivated soldiers who have more autonomy, and with superior weapons, is enough to beat a mass army. This article doesn't try to make that case, preferring to grind the "sovereign individual" axe. That doesn't relate to events in Ukraine at all.
- JumpCrisscross 5y ago> enough to beat a mass army A massively incompetent one. Change the narrative to a warlord trying to invade neighbouring nation and this sounds less surprising.
