Fortran does not require (nor has much available for) manual memory management, and its array syntax is more convenient than Numpy (and far more convenient than Python without Numpy), obviating any futzing around with pointers or indices.
- pletnes 5y agoFortran is definitely much more high level than C, and way easier to write performant numerics in, than the C family languages. I don’t follow why its array syntax is easier than python though. They’re mostly very similar and the numpy developers seem to come from a Fortran background.
- zozbot234 5y agoFORTRAN is very high level, that's why you can write FORTRAN in any language.
